A BRIEF HISTORY

TL«PAC, the first library oriented political action committee in the nation, was established in 1980.  Since then, TL«PAC has contributed over $150,000.00 to the campaigns of candidates for state representative, state senate, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor.

The support given to office-seekers culminates in access to office-holders after the election.  This access has allowed supporters of Texas Libraries to gain significant support for funding efforts and for legislation to better serve Texas Libraries and their users.

“When we offer financial support to a candidate, regardless of the amount, we are doing something vital to the current process of electing pro-education, pro-library representatives in our government.  We are recognizing that to be politically effective we must work within the system as it is.  We don’t make the rules – we just play the game as well as we can.”

- Ruth Semrau, Past TLA Legislative Committee Chair and current Chair of TL«PAC
